There are two main types of scrapbook album - ring bound and post bound. Ring bound scrapbooks album are just like the files many of us will have used - with two or more metal rings on which you put your page protectors that snap together to close. This means that you can easily add new pages and rearrange them, but you can not expand your album at all to continue to add to it.

Post bound albums have two or more metal posts to put your page protectors onto. If you want to add more pages you can just screw in some more and the spine will expand so you have a good looking album no matter how many pages you have in it. However if you want to add a page in to the middle you will have to take half the pages off and them put them on again!
